“From ‘Fake news’ to ‘infodemic’: five interesting years for librarians”

An EAHIL (The European Association for Health Information and Libraries) Event supported and managed by Health Library Ireland

Presenter: Matilde Fontanin, University of Trieste

Matilde Fontanin has been an academic librarian since 1995. She is member of the Italian Library Association (AIB) Professional Development Board and served two terms with IFLA CPDWL, where she currently remains as a consultant and is part of the working group on infodemic.
She recently defended her PhD Thesis at the University La Sapienza, Rome, a research on Information, disinformation and other words, structured as a glossary comparing Italian and English terms used in the debate.
Her core thesis was a reflection on the ethical role of library and information professionals facing information disorder, whose professional call is to contribute to raise citizens’ awareness and evaluation skills through media and information literacy.
In 2021 she spent three months at the University of Oxford thanks to an international mobility PhD research grant.
In 2020 she opened as invited speaker the Conference BOBCATSSS2020 in Paris, with the talk Fake news: should LIS professionals be gatekeepers?
